There are many sources of antique and vintage items for the artisan and crafter to purchase who use old in the making of their new product. Some of those products include antique and vintage textiles of which is my field of expertise. There are many beautiful pieces of cloth which are damaged and can no longer be used as they are. So it is wonderful to see new creations with the old. As it is, many such pieces are one of a kind. And thus, creating tomorrow's heirloom.
So I have created a short picture showcase of textiles and related items that might give inspiration.
A group of vintage hand made silk ribbon rosettes. Late Edwardian - 1920's. Rosettes or flowers such as these were used for millinery hat trim, dresses and lingerie. Still, many of these lovelies found their way into the 1920's boudoir to decorate bedspreads, pillows & pictures frames as well as an assortment of vanity items ~ powder puffs, mirror backs, vanity trays, trinket boxes, pin keeps to name a few. The 1920's was a height of elegance and these beauties certainly showed it.
Antique & vintage instruction books for making crochet, knitted and embroidery items were many homemaker's "must" from the Victorian era through today. Books such as the above are a great resource of the fashionable then but also can be a great revival today.
The Bakelite belt buckle or slide. Ever so popular during the 1930's and 1940's. I see fun things done with these today.
And yes, there is fabric ~ from all era's! Great for quilting, restorations or reproduction sewing. This neat piece (with its original label) dates from 1915 - 1930. It was a type of fabric used for shirting.

1940's red seersucker fabric and what a kick! A top hats and canes print!

Laces ~ so beautiful and so useful! This lovely piece dates from the early 1900's

Vintage patterns are, oh so collectible! And why not? Still so usable! Here's a little sweetheart of a pattern of a child's bonnet!
This is just a small sampling of findings. For more information on any of these items or similar items I invite you to please visit me here or still more here
